This is our Nell. She is a resue from St Louis. She was born in an SPCA. Her mother, Claire, was chained, neglected, dehydrated, starved and pregnant. She was picked up by an animal rescue group and taken to the SPCA where she delivered 8 puppies. She was too malnourished and dehydrated to make milk so the folks at the SPCA hand-fed the pups round the clock for three days when Claire took over the care of her babies.

Claire is a purebred Brittany Spaniel so when NBRAN (Brittany Rescue group) learned of her plight, they tag-teamed Claire and her puppies to Indiana where the family was fostered. The pups were only ten days old. Claire and her pups were fostered by the kindest of people. They emptied out their dining room and turned it into a puppy kingdom. Nell was gently loved and handled. She was flown to Manchester airport where we met her and have loved her since. She will be 5 years old in October.

She is a lovely, nervous, gentle darling. She is adored every day.

Little Bee

Little Bee, the Supreme Being from another planet

When I find myself in times of trouble, the Wee Bee comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, Little Bee
And in my hour of darkness she is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, Little Bee
Little Bee  Little Bee  Little Bee   Little Bee
Whisper words of wisdom,  Little Bee

This is Little Bee

I'm pretty sure she is the Supreme Being (SB) from another planet. She is so wise. She knows everything. She has ET-esque eyes: wide-set, a little drippy and deeeep. She is a huntress (Well, sort of...She terminally injured a red squirrel while we were camping. Then she got bored and, while she ate her kibble, I carried the maimed squirrel deep into the woods and laid it on a mossy patch under a birch tree where it could watch the clouds float by and die in peace. Have not stop sobbing whenever I think of it.)

Bee is the most well-adjusted dog I've ever known. My friend Debra said, "Don't f- -k her up!" I know what she means. All our other dogs were loveable but riddled with neurosis. We got them as puppies and practically breast fed them so it couldn't be our fault. Does our neurosis absorb into our puppies? If Bee really is the SB, is she safe from my insanity.

Lulu the Black Lab...starring as Cleopatra

Lulu - Black Laborador Retriever

submitted by Janie and Finn

Lulu, a 7 year old labrador retriever, was the only girl pup in the litter. She knows she is unique - in another life, she may have been Cleopatra or some other diva. She can hang with the boys, but she is very much a lady and always the boss, especially with her favorite boy cousin, Wrigley, a Brittany Spaniel.

Her favorite activity is swimming - she is a master at climbing pool ladders and swimming with frogs. Although her shoe nabbing days are over, she still has a luxurious taste for expensive cheese and special gourmand foods that may or may not have been left out for her enjoyment. She never apologizes, I bet Cleopatra never did either.

My name is Cuddles Eben Blue Buster(Gardner) everybody calls me Buster. I am an almost 6 year old (August 28th is my birthday) black brindle Boston Terrier. I now live in Wilmot, NH with my Mommy, my brother Ethan and the Dog Walker. My Mommy found me on Pet Finder.com and after many phone interviews she came to get me on the day before Halloween. I had spent the previous 2 years living in a cage only being let out a few times a day to use the bathroom and for an occasional romp in the kitchen with the communal dog toy. I was kept for breeding (I have 7 children out in the world and many grandchildren and great grandchildren). My old Mommy said it was time for me to leave and have a new life. It was love at first sight when my new family walked in the door. Now I had a boy to play with, a happy gentle man to walk me and the best of all was my Mommy (who I loved at first sight). Off we went in the car to a wonderful happy place at the end of a dirt road. It was filled with so many toys, soft beds, wonderful yummy foods and the best thing of all it was all for me. A family and now I am the happiest dog ever.

I would love to tell you about my big boy and best bud Skippy. We got him as a tiny 5 week old
kitten in May of 2001. He grew bigger and bigger... into a 25 lb. monster cat. Even though
he was the biggest cat anyone around had ever seen, he had a heart of gold. As my babies
grew up, they would pull on his ears and tail, and he would just let them. They would try
relentlessly to pick him up, and he would succumb to their attempts. He was a wonderful
friend to all the pets who came and went over the years.. and he was my rock.
Whenever I was sad, or happy, or scared, he was there for me to hold and comfort me.
Skippy went out for his daily walk on Sept. 7, 2011, and we never saw him again.
I still miss him every day. R.I.P sweet boy.

Pembroke Welsh Corgi
(Paw Print Portrait in 3" Ceramic)

Okay, so the Pembroke Welsh Corgi is the Royal British Family's favorite pup for the past 70 years. Queen Elizabeth II alone owns 16 corgis. That's right, SIXTEEN! However, it should be known that Prince William and Princess Kate have not followed in their grandmother's footsteps---they recently adopted a cocker spaniel. Oh, the family feuds they must have! Fortunately, the local corgi pictured here lives well enough away from such dog breed disputes.

This Paw Print Portrait includes both a paw print impression on one side of the ceramic disc and a pet portrait on the other. They come in varying sizes and can include multiple pets. Visit pawprintswithapurpose.com for more information on these custom made treasures!

Dante
(provided by Mary Anne)

(Pet Portrait Pendant)
This portrait was painted on a 1.5" x 1" oval ceramic pendant. That's tiny! Teeny tiny, in fact. And yet, I think the artists at Paw Prints with a Purpose managed yet again to create a fine piece of artwork, no matter the parameters. These sell for a $28.00 apiece. They come with a leather cord. For a portrait of a beloved pet that I can wear wherever I want, I'd say my Dante is as close to priceless as it gets.

Thanks Paw Prints with a Purpose!

TRAVIS THE THOROUGHBRED
written by Rette Solomon

(Ceramic Paw Print Portrait
with Hoof Impression on Reverse-side
Custom-made by Paw Prints with a Purpose)

Travis is my Thoroughbred Horse. He is almost 17 hands which would be almost 5’ at his
shoulder. I have competed in one horse show with him…and it was very eventful.

The morning of the show, I had to get up at 4:30 AM (!) to get Travis and his friends at the barn.
When we arrived at the show, my particular show class was not going to be for a little while,
and we let Travis graze in the parking field. Travis breakfasted on the lush, green grass.

When it was finally time for my event to begin, Travis was by far the biggest horse in the ring.
Little ponies were trotting all around him and I felt very nervous and conspicuous.

When it was time to trot over poles, a special event in the competition, Travis trotted politely
over the first three, but when confronted with the fourth pole, he couldn’t resist. He took a
giant leap over the miniscule pole and cantered away, the Thoroughbred that he is.

Due to Travis’ enthusiasm, we placed 3rd out of 4 in that class. However, the remainder of the
day was much better with Travis and I placing 2nd in another class.

Recently, my instructor had another student (and her well behaved pony) and I canter over
poles once again. We are reminded that Travis still likes to leap over these small jumps. Maybe
his zest for jumping will be fulfilled when I finally get to jump 2 feet and higher!

"Fly"
Ceramic Paw Print Portrait
with Paw Print Impression on Reverse-side
Custom-made by Paw Prints with a Purpose

Fly's Retirement Plan
shared with us by Lynn Solomon, Fly's devoted owner

We finally relented after years of pleading and begging from our youngest daughter.  After coming home with a Christmas wish entitled “I Will Never Stop Dreaming of a Dog”, my husband and I decided we would welcome a canine into our home for our daughter’s ninth birthday.

We knew an adult dog would be the right choice for us as we were already juggling two cats, three rabbits and two children. When I mentioned our dog-quest to a friend, she implored us to take one of her dogs, and this was a dog we already knew and liked.  My friend had added a newer, bigger German Shepherd to their home and keeping the two separated was becoming more difficult.

Our soon-to-be-doggie was named Fly, a black and white Border Collie named after the mother dog in the movie, Babe the Pig.  For us, he became our Flyboy.

The long awaited day came for us to bring Fly to is new home.  Without delay, he let us snap on a leash and jumped into our car. Once home, Fly only had eyes for our three outdoor rabbits.  A herder by design, Fly assumed the role of protector of our bunnies.  Herding them was made easy by the fact that they were contained in a hutch, but that did not diminish Fly’s enthusiasm and instinct to guard them from lurking predators.

Each morning Fly would clamor to get outside to see his bunnies.  He would skulk down to the cage, crouching to make certain none of them would escape.  After circling the hutch a few times, he would settle down in guard mode and lay by the cage until summoned back inside.  The mere mention of “the bunnies” would send Fly to the door to check on his flock.  At the age of nine, Fly finally had the chance to be a working dog as generations of Border Collies had worked before him.

Fly was equally good at therapy work.  Led by our daughter, he passed his Canine Good Citizen Test with flying colors and spent the next 2 years visiting his fellow seniors at local assisted living facilities.  Fly was pleased to be accompanied by his beloved bunnies on these visits as they aced their Good Citizen Tests as well. The quintet of three rabbits, one dog and a small girl entering through the door brought grins and laughter to all who witnessed the unusual visitors.  Once inside, Fly sat patiently and waited for petting while the rabbits really stole the show with the residents.

Like many heroes, Fly’s time was cut short too soon. A combination of hip dysplasia and arthritis through his spine created enough nerve damage to end his life just before his twelfth birthday.  We know Fly’s years in retirement with us were ones he truly enjoyed.  He is missed terribly by his family and our remaining pets.  We are confident that he is now in doggie heaven herding rabbits to his heart’s content.
